Manufacturer's ID: OPSIX

What we say:

At A Glance:

The opsix from Korg is a modern take on FM synthesis. It offers an easy to use interface, that you can still edit deeply via the data entry encoders. This makes it great for FM novices and advanced users alike. The opsix features 6 operators, 11 different filters, three LFOs and much more. This gives you the tools to take FM synthesis and go beyond its original capabilities!

Features We Love:

Expanded FM Synthesis

The FM synthesis engine on the opsix, features a classic six-operator design. However, it expands upon the original capabilities of FM by including new waveforms, operator modes and filters.

Simplistic Workflow

Korg have made a genius move by simplifying the main workflow of the opsix. FM can be rather complex to program. By making the workflow feel more akin to analogue subtractive synthesis, it inspires more editing on the fly for performance. You still have those deep editing tools available via the data entry knobs too, which means this doesn’t sacrifice any actual programmability.

Algorithms

The opsix features 40 preset and user algorithms. This offers a ton of options for sound design, and the ability to construct your own algorithms from scratch. This seals the deal for us!

Highlights:

  • Powerful FM Synthesizer with expanded capabilities
  • Five operator modes
  • 40 Preset and User algorithms
  • Simplistic workflow with deep editing available
  • A range of analog filters
  • Range of quality FX
  • Compact and portable

Overall Rating 5/5 (2 reviews)

Only scratched the surface of its complexity, already great fun and too much to explore. You?ll need plenty of time for exploring and experimenting. There?s a whole bunch of material on you tube as starters getting you going.
