The Fender Ben Gibbard Mustang Natural is a stripped down no-nonsense performer. Known as the frontman/guitarist of Death Cab for Cutie, Gibbard has a modest style of playing that is all about the song. Having contributed to the rich music hotbed of the Pacific Northwest with several albums including their seminal release Transatlanticism, his choice of guitar has often been a modified '70s Mustang. This signature model takes that blueprint but adds a number of unexpected features that come together to produce a real workhorse of a guitar. With the typical 24" scale length and a 9.5" radius it is very easy to play. The chambered ash body and modified bridge set it apart from other Mustangs and we can certainly see why Ben loves it so much!

Chambered Ash Body

Not only does the chambered ash body look great due to the visible grain on the natural finish, but it offers several benefits. The reduction in weight will certainly delight those who play for long periods of time (thanks for extra the encores Ben!) and the increased resonance allow the guitar to really sing with an organic quality.

Vintage-Style Mustang Bridge

At first glance this may appear to be your typical Mustang Tremolo but it has in fact been modified to a hardtail setup. This gives excellent tuning stability and some great sustain too.

Vintage-Style Pickups

This pair of single-coils do a wonderful job of producing crystal clear single notes but can venture into big chord rock territory perfectly well when required. As a lot of Ben's playing is based around delicate sounding arpeggios or atmospheric chord passages, these are a great choice to accentuate the finer details in his playing.
