About Baritone Guitars
Baritone guitars have a very distinctive sound thanks to their extended range. Many contemporary Metal and Prog artists play in low tunings and these guitars work perfectly for that. Not limited to heavy music, baritone guitars can also be heard on many Country songs, with both acoustic and electric guitars being used.
They have a longer scale length than regular guitars, usually somewhere in the region of 26" to 30". This allows the correct amount of string tension to be achieved for lower tunings.
Chapman, Solar Guitars, and ESP all make models that cater to those who play heavy music and seek a reliable guitar for low tuned riffing. Gretsch offer a great alternative in the form of the G5260 for anyone after a more traditional looking guitar and the Alvarez ABT60 ensures that acoustic players are not left out of the baritone world either.
