How long does it take to learn guitar?

How quickly do you want to learn? For some it takes weeks practicing several hours a day, and for others it can take a few months to get the hang of it at a slower, steadier pace. What matters most is your commitment and drive to play. The more often you practice and the more you challenge yourself the quicker you'll learn. It never hurts to get some advice or direction and this is where a good teacher or instructional video can help. Keep practicing, keep learning, and you'll be playing confidently in no time!

How many strings does a guitar have?

Standard electric and acoustic guitars have six strings. Basses come with four. Variations include seven stringed electrics, twelve string acoustics, five string basses and more. The extra strings are there to provide a wider range of sounds for different styles of playing or genres of music.

How much does a good guitar cost?

There are great guitars at every price point. The important question to ask yourself is "What am I looking for?". Are you a beginner or an experienced player? Do you play the blues or heavy metal? Do you need something to travel with, or are you adding to your already incredible collection? No matter your budget you'll walk away with the guitar that suits you.

What are the three types of guitars?

Acoustic, bass and electric are the three main types of guitar. Acoustics have hollow bodies that produce the sound and so do not need any extra equipment to play. Electric guitars produce sound through an amplifier and on board electronics called pickups. Basses are like bigger electric guitars, but usually come with four strings that are much thicker than normal. Like electric guitars, basses have pickups that need an amplifier in order to produce sound.

Is acoustic or electric guitar better for beginners?

The best guitar for learning is the one that will keep you playing! They both have pros and cons, but you want something that will keep you coming back for more, so think about what music you like. Is it rock and heavy metal with loud electric guitars? Is it finger picked or pop style acoustic? Start with something that matches what inspired you to play and you'll never look back.
