Calling all guitarists hungry to learn the ins&outs of the fretboard: guitarguitar have joined forces with Ibanez to deliver a run of masterclasses this July, hosted by Ibanez artist Liam Stephenson!
Meet the Artist
Liam Stephenson is the lead guitarist for a British prog metal group Divided by Design, as well as a composer, an educator and Ibanez guitars and Laney amplification endorsee. Liam has also amassed a huge fanbase online due to his impeccable guitar skills which also won him the title of the Guitar ICON in a UK-wide guitar competition held by guitarguitar & Ibanez in 2025!
What’s This Event All About?
During these masterclasses, Liam Stephenson will demo a selection of Ibanez AZ guitars whilst playing through his original tracks. On top of that, he will also explore the following topics:
Understanding the guitar beyond shapes
- Understanding how to open up the guitar and play anywhere / moving beyond box shapes
- Applying this knowledge to improvisation
- Creating memorable melodies with the guitar
- Understanding how to make deliberate musical decisions with modes and open string riffs
How to write instrumental music
- How to structure an instrumental guitar song
- Writing with time signatures from a guitarist’s perspective
- How to write with originality / using guitar techniques and concepts to fuel writing
Social media
- Navigating the music industry / learning from failures
- Creating videos for guitar / making the right choices for you vs chasing algorithms
