What we say:
ESP are not exactly being subtle with the name of this beautiful Eclipse model! Calling it the Lemon Drop is a direct reference to a very famous singlecut once owned by Peter Green, then Gary Moore and now Kirk Hammett! It is a legendary instrument and ESP have used it’s inspiration to create a wonderfully affordable tribute that is a great instrument in its own right.
In terms of woods and construction, the EC-256FM Lemon Drop adheres to ESP’s tried and tested standards: A Mahogany body gets a Flamed Maple top and is joined with a glued in Mahogany neck. A 24.75” scale length and Rosewood fingerboard keep this firmly in classic territory.
That Flame top is well figured and attractive to look at: the iconic ‘Lemon Drop’ colour (the original inspiration was a Heritage Sunburst that had faded to leave only the light Amber shade) is well matched and looks the part.
A pair of ESP-designed humbuckers impart a nice mix of vintage sustain and modern crunch.
This affordable guitar impresses: it is in no way supposed to be a replica of the Peter Green guitar but more a full-on LTD model with a finish that tips a sly wink to those who know. It’s a great gigging instrument with a cool look.
