About Fender Offset
Fender Offset guitars include classics such as the Jaguar, Mustang, Jazzmaster and Duo Sonic. These guitars are known as 'offset' due to their non-symmetrical body-shape, which often has an angular shift in the body contour and have something of a 'leaning' direction to them.
Fender Offset guitars found an unexpected home within the Alternative music scene, with bands like Sonic Youth, The Birthday Party and of course, Nirvana making great use of offset guitars. This gave rise to the image of Fender Offset guitars as the go-to instrument for Alternative players.
Both the Mustang and the Duo Sonic are short scale guitars. They were originally intended for students to learn on and the scale length of both is 24", an inch and a half shorter than Fender's standard scale length. This change makes these guitars extremely easy to play.
