11 Most Anticipated Albums of 2025: DEFTONES, Chappell Roan, TYLER CHILDERS & More!
We’re at the halfway point of 2025 already! So much great music has already been released this year, it’s been a strong start! 2025 has been littered with awesome album releases by the following top acts so far:
- Sleep Token
- Ghost
- Spiritbox
- Turnstile
- Behemoth
- Deafheaven
- Caroline
- Lorde
- Whitechapel
Now that is impressive enough (keep an eye out for those artists if you don’t already), but this year seems set to bring us much more musical treasure! Today I want to cover a selection of biggies - the ones that are getting us excited here at guitarguitar - and I may even make some predictions later on, too!
Are you ready to get excited?
The Albums We Can’t Wait For, at a Glance
The Armed - The Future is Here and Everything Needs to Be Destroyed
Lana Del Rey - The Right Person Will Stay
Ethel Cain - Willoughby Tucker, I’ll Always Love You
Ghostwoman - Welcome to the Civilised World
Deftones - Private Music
Metal titans Deftones haven’t given us an album since Ohms back in 2020. We’ve been feeling the lack of new music from them recently, but just as this article was being discussed, Private Music was announced. The timing is good! This will be their tenth studio album, and we’re expecting it on August 22nd. Even better, the band are touring arenas in early 2026! There will be plenty of time to get familiar with their fresh new masterpieces!
Tyler Childers - Snipe Hunter
Country music man of the moment Tyler Childers is almost ready to drop his new record! July 25th will see the release of Snipe Hunter, Childers’ 7th studio album. This follows two years on from his Rick Rubin-produced album Rustin’ in the Rain, and features 13 new songs.
He’s one of the biggest names of the new (new-new?) Country scene, so Snipe Hunter is destined to be a success for the Kentucky-born singer-songwriter.
Kanye West - Bully
July 25th should also see the release of Bully, Kanye West’s new record. I say ‘should’, because I never know what to expect with Kanye, and since he announced the record last year, he has released a number of WIP versions already, all a bit different, and a pair of EPs.
There could be a masterplan being played here with all of these quasi-releases, but we’ll just have to watch and see what this troubled hip hop legend actually does!
Muse - TBA
Matt Bellamy and co recently announced their return to rock via the 8-string riffing on single Unravelling. It’s a welcome move towards a side to Muse that’s been missing for the last couple of long-players.
Now, to be clear, Muse haven’t officially announced any new records. However, I’m sticking them in here instead of in my predictions’ section at the bottom. Why? Because I’m pretty confident that a band of this size don’t drop lonesome one-off singles without being within sight of a finished complete album. We’ll see!
Chappell Roan - TBA
Much as I mentioned with Muse above there, Chappell Roan’s single release, The Giver, back in March was a big wink to us that there’s new material on the horizon. Given that, and the huge gigs she has lined up for the end of the Summer (did you get your tickets?), I think it’s safe to say that we’ll soon be hearing the follow-up to smash album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.
The Armed - The Future is Here and Everything Needs to Be Destroyed
The Armed are a curious lot. Described as post hardcore and metalcore, the band themselves do their best to remain anonymous. There's a core group of members alongside a rotation of collaborators. ‘Creative Director’ Tony Wolski - one of the few members who can be positively named - describes the band as “essentially a socialist art utopia”. Wolski reckons over 100 people have contributed to the 5 albums in existence so far. Some of those are notable industry names (Eric Avery, Justin Meldal-Johnsen, Julien Baker, Troy Van Leeuwen), while others remain pretty mysterious.
This year will see the release of the 6th, the excellently-named The Future is Here and Everything Needs To Be Destroyed.
Lana Del Rey - The Right Person Will Stay
We actually expected this tenth album from LA songstress Lana Del Rey to land back in May. It didn’t, and now has an unconfirmed release date. On last month’s stadium tour she included a couple of Tammy Wynette and John Denver covers, so she is expected to continue this vibe and offer up a Country-style album, which is right on the money, trend-wise.
Ethel Cain - Willoughby Tucker, I’ll Always Love You
August 8th sees the release of the new Ethel Cain record, Willoughby Tucker, I’ll Always Love You. The prolific artist has gotten herself into a bit of hot water recently, with controversial material from years ago having been unearthed. Hopefully she can move through that appropriately and deliver what she’s great at: darkly gothic indie and folk.
Indigo De Souza - Precipice
Anyone who has heard the Bruce Lee-quoting Be Like the Water single will be looking forward to the 25th July! Indigo De Souza’s new album is called Precipice, and singles Crying Over Nothing and Heartthrob are both taken from this album.
As a poppy palette cleanser, this one will hopefully hit the mark, whilst Summer is still with us!
Halestorm - Everest
Lzzy Hale has been keeping the classic rock flag flying high for years. Forthcoming album Everest - the band’s 6th - will drop on August 8th featuring production from Ben Cobb. Singles Everest and Darkness Always Wins have already been released. If these tastes are any indication of the album, then call us excited!
Ghostwoman - Welcome to the Civilised World
Ghostwoman is a caustic blend of guitars and drums, forged in the Canadian wilderness. Described as ‘an allergic reaction to the times we are living in’, this 4th album by the Canadian/Belgian duo drops on 5th September. If lead single Alive is anything to go by, it’s gonna be a good ‘un!
Predictions
Like a modern day John Dee, I look into my musical crystal ball and predict that we’re be hearing new music by these artists in 2025:
- Mastodon
- Gojira
- Anthrax
- Fear Factory
- Tyler the Creator
- Incubus
Some of my predictions relate to mumblings from band members themselves. Others are based on how long it's been since we had anything from such bands. Gojira: Fortitude was released back in 2021! Get on with it!
As for the others, well, we’ll see how well my scrying sessions performed as the year rolls on. In the meantime, the stuff that’s all confirmed for release is more than enough for a vintage year of music. Get listening: there’s no time like just now!
