What we say:

At A Glance:

The Yamaha TRBX174 represents one of the best basses around for beginners. It's a full-sized bass with quality components that will keep up with the pace as you get better, meaning there's no need to upgrade as you become more advanced. It's also a great option for experienced players in need of an inexpensive guitar for gigging and practice.

Features We Love:

Mahogany Body

Mahogany is a popular hardwood that's loved for its weighty feel, rich low end and smooth high-end character.

Pickups

This bass sports a split single-coil pickup in the classic middle position, with its unmistakable mid-range and tone, while the addition of a J Bass style pickup in the bridge gives you access to a host of further sounds, from shimmering cleans to satisfying growl and slap tones.

34" Scale Length

The standard 34" scale length promotes string tension without the guitar feeling uncomfortable, great for all styles of music and even down-tuning.

Highlights:

  • Great for learning on
  • Suitable for playing most styles of music
  • Wide range of tone options

Customer reviews

Overall Rating 5/5 (9 reviews)

I'm only a beginner so not exactly well qualified to evaluate this, but the bass guitar I purchased seems very well made and of high quality for a reasonable price. It'll be more than good enough for me for a very long time for sure.

Excellent quality and very reasonably priced. Perfect starter bass, or for someone like me who learned on an old low quality bass but wanted an upgrade in quality without spending too much money.
