The Martin D-18 Molly Tuttle was inspired by one of Molly’s most prized possessions: her 1943 D-18. Known for its punchy midrange, articulate highs, and balance across the strings, the original guitar became a central part of Molly’s sound and songwriting. To bring that same magic to a new generation, Martin carefully re-created key vintage features that bluegrass players covet—including a 1 11/16" nutwidth for fast flatpicking and rear-shifted scalloped bracing for a brighter, more responsive voice with clear note separation.

The body is all classic Martin D-18: a solid spruce top finished in vintage sunburst paired with solid mahogany back and sides. Together, they deliver warmth, clarity, and projection that cut beautifully through an ensemble or stand strong on their own. Ebony is used for the bridge and fingerboard, enhancing tonal richness, while the neck is shaped with an authentic 1940s profile that captures the feel of Molly’s treasured wartime guitar.

Visually, the guitar reflects Molly’s personal touches. The fingerboard is adorned with custom moon phase inlays, a celestial motif that mirrors her artistry and individuality. A silver Martin script logo decorates the headstock, and custom oval tuner buttons provide a distinctive vintage-inspired twist. The guitar arrives in a light blue molded hardshell case—an iconic style Martin first used in the 1970s that has since become a nostalgic favorite among players and collectors.

The D-18 Molly Tuttle is more than just another take on a classic—it’s an artist model that represents the voice and vision of one of today’s most important musicians. Whether you’re a flatpicker chasing clarity, a songwriter seeking balance, or simply a fan of Molly’s groundbreaking sound, this guitar delivers. And for those looking to match her aesthetic on stage, Martin also offers the Molly Tuttle Signature Strap, crafted in black vegan leather and embossed with her moon-phase motif for a bold finishing touch.
