The classic Fender Stratocaster has seen many tweaks and changes over it's long life. In the 1980's Fender strived to provide the classic design with more modern tweaks. Built in the Japan, this model most notably differed from the original design with the addition of a Fender System 1 bridge. Reminiscent of a Floyd Rose this design aimed to draw in a more modern player who liked to make heavy use of the Vibrato system.
