About Gibson ES 335

The ES-335 is one of Gibson's most famous guitars. It is a semi-acoustic guitar with two hollow f-holed sides to its body and a solid centre block of Maple to anchor the pickups and reduce feedback. Introduced in 1958, the ES-335 has proven itself suitable for Pop, Rock, Blues, Jazz and a myriad of other genres. This makes it one of the most versatile guitar designs available.

The semi hollow nature of the ES-335 opens its sound up and gives it a less overtly thick tone in comparison to the Gibson Les Paul and, to a lesser extent, the SG. Like these two models, the ES-335 typically has a pair a humbucker pickups, a tune-o-matic bridge and a 24.75" scale length, making it extremely easy to play. The large, double cutaway body is immediately recognisable. It has been a very influential design for other companies as well as Gibson themselves. They now offer a large range of other semi-acoustic guitars designed in the wake of the 335.

Cherry Red ES-335 guitars have, thanks to Chuck Berry and perhaps even Marty McFly, become the iconic 335 model. As one of only a few UK-based authorised Gibson dealers, we offer a large range of Gibson ES-335 models. Visit any of our UK based guitarguitar stores and enjoy the best selection of Gibsons in the country.

Frequently Asked Questions about Gibson ES 335

Gibson make their ES and other semi hollow (and fully hollow) guitars out of a 3 ply laminate of Maple and Poplar. This is how these guitars have always been made, right back to the 1950s. Semi hollow models have solid blocks down the middle of the inside made from Maple.
Gibson make their ES-335 guitars in Memphis, Tennessee. All Gibson guitars are made in the USA.
'ES' stands for 'Electric Spanish'. This term was originally used to indicate that the guitar should be played in the 'normal' Spanish fashion rather than flat on the player's lap as is common in Hawaiian guitar styles (EH models by Gibson- Electric Hawaiian) which were extremely popular back in the 50s. '335' is actually what the guitar cost back in 1958: $335. Bargain!
