About Gibson ES

Is there a guitar that puts a smile on your face as easily as a Gibson ES model? Gibson ES guitars have featured in some of the most iconic musical moments of the last 70 years.

The ES Series features both hollow and semi-hollow designs. These guitars feature a softer midrange and airier top-end than solid body Gibsons like the Les Paul. Born out of ‘archtop’ jazz guitars, classic designs like the ES-335 and ES-330 are thinline archtop guitars with distinctive f-holes. Because of their thinner bodies, they are much more versatile and comfortable. They have been played in all styles of music from alternative rock to blues.

Current Gibson ES models range from reissues of vintage guitars to modern spins on old designs such as the ES-339.

What Makes Gibson ES Guitars Different?

  • Iconic designs and sounds
  • Extremely comfortable
  • Perfect for a wide range of styles
  • Frequently Asked Questions about Gibson ES

Question: What year was the Gibson ES first introduced?
Gibson first used the term ES to designate hollow guitars way back in the 1930s. In 1958, Gibson introduced a raft of ES models which have become the main models in the series. The ES-335, ES-345, ES-355 and ES-330 all came out in this bumper year!
Question: Is the Gibson ES still being made today?
Yes! Gibson still make ES guitars. Current ES models include reissues of vintage guitars as well as modern versions of these classic designs.
Question: What type of music is the Gibson ES best for playing?
here are two categories of Gibson ES guitars: hollow and semi-hollow. Hollow guitars, such as the ES-330 and ES-350, are best suited for cleaner styles of music like jazz, soul and R’n’B. Semi hollow guitars, such as the ES-335, can handle more gain thanks to their centre-block design. This makes them perfect for blues, rock and indie.
