What makes a good electric guitar?

An electric guitar is good when it feels and looks good to you. Keep in mind what you enjoy listening to and the styles of music that you will spend most of your time playing. What do your favourite artists play? Once you find something you like, have a play, see how it feels in your hands and listen to the different tones you can get from it. If it's comfortable and you like how it sounds then that's the one for you!

What is the best electric guitar to learn on?

For a first electric guitar, beginners tend to choose a model based on one of the all-time classic designs. These include the Stratocaster, Telecaster, Les Paul and SG. The Squier Bullet, Epiphone Les Paul Special, and Yamaha Pacifica ranges are particularly popular.

How much does a decent electric guitar cost?

We'd recommend looking in the £100 to £300 price range for a first electric guitar. This will still give you a wide selection of models to choose from and will provide you with a good instrument to learn on and even gig with. Whatever your budget is, it is possible to find one that will suit your needs. Many guitarists are happy to spend that little bit extra to get exactly what they want as they see it as an investment in their playing. This gives them a great guitar that will provide years of enjoyment.

Is electric guitar easier to play than acoustic?

Short answer, no. Neither is easier or more difficult than the other. The key here is to play the instrument you are most passionate about. This will motivate you to keep practicing - and practice makes perfect!

What is an acoustic electric guitar?

Acoustic guitars produce sound from the hollow body of the instrument. Electric guitars create sound from pickups and electric components. An acoustic electric gives you the best of both worlds! It looks the same as an acoustic and gives the same natural sound, but it has the added ability to be plugged into an amplifier or for recording. This is made possible due to a pickup and preamp which are often housed within the guitar itself. These guitars are great for performers who want to amplify their natural acoustic sound.
