Frequently Asked Questions about Squier Jaguar

Question: What is a 'strangle switch' and does the Squier Jaguar have one?
The famous Strangle Switch is the nickname for a high-pass filter circuit inside the Jaguar. As the name suggests, this circuit stops all of the low end frequencies from sounding but lets through the higher frequencies. This results in a thin, trembly sound. The Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar does indeed have the Strangle Switch! It is located on the guitar's lower bout and is one of the trio of switches clustered together there. The other two are pickup on/off selectors for use with the Lead circuit.
Question: Does the Squier Jaguar have a shorter neck than a Strat or Jazzmaster?
Yes, it does. As with traditional Jaguar guitars, the Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar has a 24" scale length, resulting in a shorter neck. This helps give the Jag its distinctive feel.
Question: What finishes does the Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar currently come in?
The Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar is currently available in 3 classic finishes: 3 Colour Sunburst, Olympic White and Surf Green.
Question: What is meant by 'Duncan Designed' pickups?
'Duncan Designed' pickups are pickups that have been designed - but not manufactured - by pickup giant Seymour Duncan. Seymour Duncan pickups are made in the USA, making them too expensive to appear on affordable imported Squier guitars. Instead, Seymour Duncan licence certain pickup designs of theirs to be made in factories in the Far East where labour is cheaper. These pickups then theoretically sound almost as good as the hand made US pickups but at a fraction of the cost. Duncan designed pickups can be found on lots of guitars manufactured in the Far East. The pickups on this Squier Jaguar are JG-101 units, designed to offer a warm yet sophisticated vintage tone.
Question: Does the Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar feature the famous Rhythm/Lead circuit of vintage Jaguar guitars?
It certainly does! The Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar has the same classic control layout and dual circuit that you'd find on vintage Jaguars. This can really open up the guitar sonically and give you a wide palette of tones to work with directly from your guitar's controls. The Rhythm/Lead circuit selector switch can be found in its traditional place on the upper horn of the guitar.
