What we say:

At A Glance

The Ibanez Steve Vai Signature PIA in Stallion White is the new and upgraded signature model of guitar legend Steve Vai. Steve and Ibanez have strived to conceive the ultimate guitar vision together for over 30 years. Vai's signature Jem has gone on to be one of Ibanez's top-selling guitars and has slowly evolved over the years with acute changes and upgrades, but with the Pia, Steve has fully embraced change and has evolved the Jem into a completely new model.

From a distance, the Pia may look like a Jem, but up close it's clear to see that the Pia is its own animal. With slightly softer and rounded edges, the Pia offers more comfort, especially for seated playing. The Monkey Grip has been replaced with a more distinguished petal design and the new pickups, circuitry and hardware epitomise yet another step forward in design.

Steve has always refused to play it safe and this is a guitar that represents decades of experience and refinement by one of the worlds finest players!

Features We Love:

Pia Looks and Design

The Pia symbolises Vai's evolution as a player, with a more distinguished and mature approach to the design. It's still an extreme guitar that is dressed with ornate design, but it is executed in a way that feels more organic. Notable design features include the Pia Blossom inlay, a new floral design that adds that true Vai flair. The body has rounded edges and softer contouring that promotes comfort, especially for seated playing. The new "Petal Grip" really sets the guitar apart from the Jem and is said to symbolise unity, companionship, and interpersonal bonds. New to the Pia is also the addition of a magnetic tremolo cavity plate, which fits clean to the body without any screws, so when it's time to change a string, simply pull the plate off and you're good. The Pia is also host to the Lion's Claw tremolo cavity and the scalloped 21-24 frets which are tried and tested standards from the Jem.

Pia Hardware

The Pia is host to the finest hardware and features made to benefit performance. Top features include Gotoh tuners, Luminlay side dots and the Edge tremolo with an Ultralite tremolo arm, which combined with the Lion's Claw cavity allow for the kind of dive bombs and screaming pull-ups that Steve is loved for. The lighter carbon fibre arm increases precision by removing the pendulum effect that occurs with a regular/weightier trem-arm, which can interfere with the guitar's pitch when you're picking hard. The result is a tremolo system that's only in effect when you want it to be.

Pickups and Electronics

Steve's new DiMarzio® UtoPIA pickups give the guitar a powerful and sweet character. The set includes the Vai standard of two humbuckers in the neck and bridge positions with a single-coil in the middle. The pickups have been created at Steve's request to have a higher output, with slightly softer high end, scooped mids and a tighter low end. This results in a hot and detailed tone without any harshness. The UtoPIA pickups also possess an aesthetic that matches the guitar, with a floral design on the body of the pickup and stunning laser cut covers which really tie the pickups in with the rest of the guitar. Finally, the volume control has an added capacitor which works as a high pass filter, subtly cutting out the bass as you roll off the volume, this keeps everything sounding crisp and bright when you turn down for cleaner tones.

Highlights:

  • The finest in build quality and design
  • Beautiful new design
  • It's pure versatile range of tones
  • Scalloped upper frets make bending easier
