What we say:
At A Glance:
This Fender American Professional Jazzmaster Rosewood Fingerboard Dark Night draws on a 70-year history to deliver one of the best Jazzmasters to date.
When it first arrived in the 1950s, the Jazzmaster was a radical looking instrument which struggled to find it's footing for many years, but when it finally landed with the right audience in the mid-80s and 90s the Jazzmaster became an icon. Improving such an iconic design is a tall order, but Fender have done just that. With this American Professional line, Fender have chosen to look at their 70-year history with electric guitars and pick out the best bits players love, and blend them to create the perfect instrument.
At its core, this is an American-made Jazzmaster as it should be, but with a few small tweaks that make this a professional-level instrument: a satin-finish neck which has been given special attention to feel played-in as soon as you pick it up, a sculpted neck heel, new pickups and electronics, and upgraded hardware.
This is the American Professional Jazzmaster.
Features We Love:
70 Year Evolution
With the American Professional line, Fender draws on 70 years of experience with electric guitars and distills the best of a Jazzmaster's DNA, making this Jazzmaster one of the best you can find.
Fender have stayed true to the original design that made this offset design such an icon, but they have added a few welcome tweaks. The body sees a slight change with a sculpted neck heel, allowing for easier access to the highest frets; so you'll have no problem with those high end lead lines!
Fender have also designed a new bridge and tremolo system for this Jazzmaster. This is a point many fans will love, as the original Jazzmaster bridge can be temperamental. Alongside these small tweaks, Fender has developed new pickups with custom electronics and created a neck that delivers a fantastic playing experience.
Professional Neck
One of the most important points on a guitar is how the neck feels. It can make or break a guitar, and Fender have worked hard to make sure every guitar in the American Professional lineup is a winner.
This American Professional Jazzmaster comes with a Deep C neck profile and rolled fingerboard edges. The Deep C profile starts like a modern C neck profile, so you'll feel right at home instantly. Slim, comfortable, and incredibly easy to play. Moving up towards the higher frets, the neck takes on a slightly thicker profile than your standard modern C and fills your hand in a very comfortable way.
The rolled fingerboard edges add an even greater level of playing ease, with the edge of the fingerboard being given extra attention during the build to round it over, which creates a 'worn-in' feeling. You'll notice this when you wrap your fingers round the neck, and it feels like a guitar that's been yours for years!
V-Mod III Pickups
At the heart of any Jazzmaster is the sound: that unmistakable jangle, clarity, and fullness. These new V-Mod III pickups keep that classic sound, but like the rest of the guitar, there are a few tweaks that come from the 70-year evolution of Fender electric guitars and the Jazzmaster.
The V-Mod pickup line actually uses a blend of magnet types to create the perfect balance between modern clarity and vintage warmth. This 3rd generation of pickups offers even greater clarity and tonal balance alongside a new pole piece stagger which follows the curve of the 9.5" fingerboard radius to help capture your playing and all its details.
Coupled with the new pickups is some fantastic-feeling and sounding electronics. The ClassicGear Precision Potentiometers offer effortless control over your guitar's volume and tone. The Push/Push tone pot also adds in a vintage voice for the bridge pickup, allowing you to switch between a modern output pickup to more vintage output pickup. On top of this, a quick flick of a switch can put the rhythm circuit in to series mode, delivering a powerful, higher output sound.
Refined Jazzmaster Bridge
The bridge on a Jazzmaster can sometimes be fickle, but Fender have redesigned it to perform like a professional. The redesigned saddles offer a deeper connection with the strings resulting in even better intonation, tone, and of course stability. Coupled with the Panorama Tremolo which features a pop in arm and this Jazzmaster improves upon the original jazzmaster bridge in every way. From subtle vibrato to deep dives, this Jazzmaster tremolo is eager to let you express yourself!
