About Yamaha BB

The Yamaha BB has become something of a cult classic over the last 40 years. This famous bass was introduced in the late 70s as a Japanese alternative to classic American basses; offering high quality at exceptional value. It was played by a huge number of bassists throughout the 80s including Peter Hook (Joy Division, New Order), Andy Rourke (The Smiths) and session legend Pino Palladino.

Yamaha has revamped the line, embracing modern manufacturing techniques to make every Yamaha BB resonant and durable. Nowhere is that more apparent than in the Yamaha BB Professional Series. The Yamaha BBP34 is their flagship Japanese model and features a 6-point Miter bolt-on neck join for extra strength and resonance. Each bass also goes through a process known as ‘Initial Response Acceleration’. This artificially ages the guitar using vibrations to mature the wood.

The Yamaha BB 700 Series is a true all-rounder workhorse. Available in both 4 and 5 string configurations, the Yamaha BB734 has an active preamp that provides more power and control over your tone. This can be disengaged, however, allowing you the best of both worlds.

The 200 and 400 Series are great options for new bass players who want to take the next step from beginner basses.
