Each players style, and preference will determine what kind of string is best for them, however different scale lengths and guitars in general will also be an important factor in determining the best string for the job.

Bass guitar strings tend to come in a few main gauges, referred to as 40s, 45s and 50s after the lightest string in the pack. Most players will settle on the gauge they prefer and stick to it but different bass guitars and different scale lengths may require a little experimentation with string gauge.
