What we say:

One of Gibson's most widely used 'shapes', the Explorer was a breath of fresh air when it appeared in 1958 alongside the Flying V. A radical design then and now, countless players, particularly in the hard rock and metal genres, have taken to the Explorer. Perhaps it's the immense slab of mahogany that thickens the sound; perhaps it's the edgy design but either way, players like Dave Grohl, James Hetfield and the Edge have all chosen the Explorer to shape their signature sound in a big way.

Full of mahogany with a thick Rosewood board and high gain ceramic pickups, this Explorer is all about massive chunk and singing sustain. The body shape actually balances brilliantly on a strap with a really comfortable fretboard resting place. It's the kind of guitar that encourages you to really dig in and go for it!

It has a slim neck for effortless soloing and mini Grover tuners too, so tuning and bending is a cinch. The pickups are a pair of Gibson 496 humbuckers provide ample firepower. The Explorer is capable of creamy, cello-like sustaining leads and beautifully subtle tones too, for those rare moments when you don't want to unleash Godzilla-sized riffs and face-melting shred solos. The black nitrocellulose finish is classic and very ROCK. Forget the imitators, choose the original.
