What we say:

At A Glance:

Inspired by the Holy Grail of vintage acoustic guitars, the Original Workhorse. Gibson's luthiers have designed the 1942 Banner J-45 to replicate the original 1942 J-45, one of the most sought after vintage instruments around, noted for its stunning tone and playability. This tribute version from the Gibson Custom Shop boasts a range of features such as the Thermally Aged Adirondack Red Spruce and period correct hit hide glue that all push to a stunning tonal response that has to be played to be believed.

Features We Love:

Old School Vibes

The 1942 Banner J-45 pays close tribute to the lauded 1942 J-45. Held by some as the Holy Grail of vintage instruments, this guitar is noted for its clear, mellow old school tones - not to mention just looking great.

New School Construction

The 1942 Banner J-45 boasts some of Gibson's most advanced features. The Adirondack Red Spruce top has received their Thermal Aging process to impart the character of a decades old piece of wood. Combined with Hot Hide Glue for maximum sonic transference, and you've got a guitar built to sound wonderfully old right out the box.

The Workhorse

The 1942 J-45 was noted for its big, well defined sound, making it the perfect workhorse to accompany basically any other instrument, and it has found a home over the decades backing up a whole raft of the greatest performers and songwriters, from Dylan and Elvis to Elliot Smith and Jeff Tweedy.

Highlights:

  • Recreation of the Holy Grail of acoustics
  • Instant old school looks and tone out of the box
  • Built with top drawer modern methods and materials
  • Solid, dependable with outstanding sound.
