What we say:

At A Glance

Back in the 60s when the Bass VI was first produced, it quickly found a home in studios and live settings. Being tuned an octave lower than a guitar, it does a great job at filling a particular audio space in the mix and therefore thickening up the overall sound. The Squier Classic Vibe model pays homage to the original and at a very attractive price point. Block inlays and a tortoiseshell pickguard keep with the retro vibes while a comfortable C shape neck makes playing a joy. The floating vibrato keeps things interesting and Fender Designed pickups create all the tone you need.

Features We Love:

30" Scale Length

With a scale length longer than that of a guitar but shorter than a standard bass, it is the perfect in-between size. It is easy to play and still allows for the strings to feel and sound great at their low pitch.

Vintage Style Tremolo

The floating vibrato is ideal for creating all of those atmospheric tremolo sounds. It is easily capable of adding some smooth pitch variation and is also a great creative tool.

Fender Designed Pickups

The trio of alnico single coil pickups have been designed by Fender so needless to say, the tones are amazing. Ideal for both clean tones and grittier sounds, a whole range of usable tones are available. Don't be worried about it being a bass as all the lower frequencies come through with plenty of definition.

Pros:

  • A perfect solution to thickening up sound in the studio or live
  • Extremely versatile
  • Squier Classic Vibe level of quality

Customer reviews

Overall Rating 4.8/5 (4 reviews)

This is a brilliant little bass, exactly as I imagined it would be. Would have been nice to try it in-store first, but opportunities for that seemed rare. The factory strings are worth upgrading immediately to a thicker set to remove the low E rattle. Good pickups, the middle one mainly used to eliminate hum on the other two. The switches seem sturdy enough to use as staccato kill-switches. The tremolo arm doesn’t lower the pitch too much before hitting the saddle or the body, but it seems superfluous on a bass anyway. The low strings sound close enough to a “proper” bass while the highs can manage quick(ish) runs and slides easily to make it sound like the low end of a guitar. All in all it works well, lovely to play and looks amazing. Love it.

Great bass. Obviously quite a unique product with its own idiosyncrasies but if you?re looking for a bass vi without breaking the bank it?s the go-to. Plays great out the box. Has a slightly loose low E, this appears to be due to the gauge of the stock strings. Easily remedied if you feel the need. Overall construction is great. No issues. With a good finish overall.
